Scouting the Knights
The River Ridge Knights will have their home opener this week after narrowly defeating the Hillgrove Hawks. The Ridge got a nifty punt return from senior DB/WR Andrew Hand late in the ball game to open the season with a win for the fourth consecutive season. Perhaps the biggest story was the Knights defense, which turned away multiple Hillgrove threats repeatedly to help give the team a chance to win. Meanwhile, the offense struggled a bit against the stout Hillgrove defense mustering only 83 total yards of offense. We believe that’s an aberration and not the norm as the Knights have plenty of weapons including Ethan Spector, Isaiah Coughlan and the aforementioned Andrew Hand.
Scouting the Greyhounds
The Pope Greyhounds begin the Sean O’Sullivan era on Friday night. The Greyhounds had a rough go of it in 2022 averaging only 9.2 points per game while the defense allowed 46.7. Pope will have plenty of experience returning from last years team. Quarterback Cole Witte has plenty of experience at the varsity level. Last seven, through seven games, Witte passed for 689 yards and 2-TDs. Expect for John Stuetzer to be a factor in the offense. He’s a versatile player that can be used as a receiver, running back, or quarterback. Last season Stuetzer rushed for 93 yards on 14 carries and led the team in receiving with 42 catches for 605 yards and 2-TDs.
Pundit's Pick
The Greyhounds are in a rebuilding season with some explosive pieces to build around. The Knights are out to make a statement that they do have a potent offense. River Ridge has more experienced weapons on both sides of the ball. We like the Knights by four touchdowns.
