Scouting the Knights

The River Ridge Knights look to continue their winning ways under head coach Mike Collins as they host the Hillgrove Hawks on Friday night. The Knights are another team returning plenty of experience under center as Ethan Spector threw for 1,688 yards and 11-TDs last season as a sophomore. Spector will be joined in the backfield by "Swiss army knife" Isaiah Coughlan and Camden Cox. Cox led the team in rushing as a freshman last season. Expect for Thomas Thompson, Grant Hillier and Andrew Hand to improve on their receiving numbers from a year ago. The offensive line will be anchored by Big Jon Faletra, Tomas Perez and Joseph Hornbuckle who return to anchor the offensive line.

Scouting the Hawks

The Hillgrove Hawks got to the postseason last year despite only putting up 15 points per game. The Hornets do however return plenty of experience to make things interesting in Region 3-7A and it starts with returning starting quarterback Toryn Wilkins. Wilkins threw for 1,675 yards and 12-TDs a year ago. He'll have some experience at receiver in Jonathan Owusu and Jeremiah Veldry. The duo combined for 58 receptions, 682 yards and 5-TDs a year ago. Defensively, Braylon Hansborough returns and looks to build on his 95 total tackles from a season ago.

The Skinny

There are a lot of similarities with these two ball clubs; both of these teams have some question marks on the defense side of the ball and both return experienced quarterbacks. We do believe that the Knights have more potential playmakers on offense and that should be the difference. We like the Ridge by 15.
