Scouting the Longhorns
The Lambert Longhorns are looking to find their groove as they have dropped their first two games of the season. The Longhorns were off last week and will need to find a way to right a defense that has allowed an average of 48.5 points per game. The Longhorns have done most of their damage on offense through the air as they are averaging 194.5 yards per game passing and just 64.5 yards per game on the ground. Quarterback Ethan Daughtery has thrown for 385 yards and 4-TDs. His top receivers this season have been Carter Chung, (16 reception, 155 yards, 1-TD) and Christian Smith (6 receptions, 109 yards). Mathew Franatovich has added 3 receiving TDs for Lambert as well. We must note that Cameron Bland, an all region performer and two sport athlete has not recorded any stats this season. So it remains to be seen if the All-State athlete will play on Friday.
Scouting the Warriors
The Cherokee Warriors will be on the road this week after a record setting performance last Friday. Cherokee recorded the most points in school history when they tallied 65 points a week ago. Senior quarterback Tanner Savasir has been racking up passing stats with 818 passing yards, 177 rushing yards, 7 total TDs (6 passing, 1 rushing) while completing 66% of his passes. Savasir is joined in the backfield by a few talented backs including the physical Christian Irwin who has tallied 160 yards on 32 carries with 4-TDs. Irwin has done this while splitting time with the speedy Brandon Hamilton and Jared Jones. Jones has accounted for 241 all purpose yards out of the backfield and 2-TDs. The Warriors also have one of the more impressive receiving units in Cherokee County headlined by tight-end Wyatt Tash, and receivers Gracen Sexton, Malachi Echols and Jace Jones. However the most improved and impressive of the bunch just might be Israel “Izzy” Conway, who has really come into his own early in the season.
Pundit's Pick
Lambert will need to really need to find a way to sustain drives to keep this explosive Cherokee offense on the sidelines. If Lambert can find some success agains the Cherokee secondary, we believe they can keep the game close. For Cherokee, they can’t have a let down. The big questions is will the be able to keep the points pouring on. This game will be close through 3 quarters, but we like Cherokee to pull away late. Warriors by 8.
