The 2023 High School Football season is heading into it's final week. Let's look at what Cherokee County teams have playoff hopes and which teams are already locked in.
Sequoyah
For the second year in a row, Sequoyah is set to be the highest seeded playoff team in Cherokee County. The Chiefs have locked in their spot as the #2 seed in region 6-6A, meaning they will most likely host Alpharetta in round one. All three of the Chiefs losses have come against teams ranked in the top 50 in Georgia (Maxpreps) with the lowest rated team being Rabun-Gap at 45. Sequoyah will play Woodstock this week with their playoff spot already secure. The Chiefs certainly have potential for a playoff win or two this year, and Skip Pope Stadium will turn the lights on at least one extra time this season.
Creekview
After missing the playoffs last season, the Grizzlies are back in the bracket as the #3 seed in 6-6A. Creekview is most likely to travel to Blessed Trinity in round one, an opponent the Grizzlies have not faced since 2017. Creekview gets the luxury of knowing their opponent going into their bye week, meaning the Grizzlies can prepare for the Titans in their time off. Creekview will be one of the better #3 seeds in the bracket, as their worst loss (according to state rankings) was to #64 Sequoyah. (Maxpreps)
River Ridge
The Knights have yet to punch their ticket to the playoffs, but have put themselves in position to do so. For River Ridge, their game against Allatoona will be a "winner takes all" elimination game. Thanks to their head-to-head win over Woodstock, and Sequoyah's wins over Allatoona, their are no tiebreakers for the Knight to worry about. The winner of Friday's game will travel to Roswell to face the Hornets in round one of the playoffs. "The Ridge" will be the place to be on Friday night.
